My series is called Bejeweled and it chronicles the necessity of accessorizing our lives with not only jewelry but also with family, friends, and memories. When one buys a piece of jewelry, no matter how priceless or inexpensive the piece may be, it eventually becomes apart of your life and then becomes linked to many memories, no matter how good or bad. As I look upon certain pieces of my grandmother's jewelry or my mom's jewelry, the feelings and memories that I experience either when I saw it for the first time or saw her wearing it, comes flooding back to me. Once this is experienced, the piece is no longer a superficial string of pearls or fake gems, but the jewelry takes on a deeper meaning in each of our lives.
The idea for m series came from the idea that when one looks at a certain piece of jewelry, a different memory is associated with each unique piece. Each of my pieces shows a painting of a person and there is a photo transfer of a certain piece of jewelry near the person. This signifies that the person shon in the artwork is a part of the memory associated with the cameo pendant, pearl necklace, or jewelry box.
